A new Star Wars movie!?  It is kind of hard to believe, isn't it?   We have waited for years, but the waiting will pay off.  Star Wars-Episode I: The Phantom Menace is coming to a theater near you on May 21st, 1999.

The Phantom Menace will explore the beginnings of the Star Wars saga.  As we will see, it all starts with a highly-talented child, 9 year old Anakin Skywalker; a brash and hotheaded young Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi; and a rising star in the Galactic Senate, Senator Palpatine.  The Phantom Menace explores the origins of the galaxy's dive into turmoil that ultimately results in the ascension of the Empire, lead by evil Senator Palpatine and his henchman, Darth Vader.

The Phantom Menace will take place on the planets of Naboo, Coruscant and Tatooine.  I am sure you are familiar with Tatooine.  Coruscant was featured briefly at the end of the Return of the Jedi: Special Edition.  Naboo is a new planet, home to Queen Padme and the human inhabitants that she rules over.  Also indiginous to Naboo are the Gungans, an underwater species of creature.  The action of Phantom Menace largely surrounds the attempt of the Jedi to ward off a threat to the safety of Naboo.

Of course, no Star Wars movie would be complete without villains.  In Phantom Menace, Darth Maul and Darth Sideous will be the main villains.  Darth Maul is rumored to brandish a "lightsaber staff" that projects its blade in two directions from a central unit.  Darth Sideous is supposedly more of a behind the scenes kind of guy, that directs a lot of the action.

What does all of this add up to?  FUN.

I'll see you in line on May 21st (along with my wife, my mom,  Anthony, Shawn, Ben, and dozens of others.) :)
